A warm Kalkverf make-over for Ylenia and Tim in Hooglede
Ylenia and Tim live in Hooglede with their three children and their dog. In a limited space, they create a warm, lively home for their family. A house where life happens, where games are played, and where every corner is utilized.
After a few years, their living room was due for a refresh. The walls had been painted before the arrival of their three children, and signs of wear and tear were becoming visible. Dents, damage, and an interior that felt a bit too white and cold: it was time for a fresh start.
Ylenia and Tim didn't just want to repaint their sitting area. They wanted more warmth, more atmosphere, and more personality. Through the Sundae house 3.0, they got to know Paintfactory. The recessed sitting area in Zwarte Woudgroen Kalkverf particularly stuck with them. They wanted to extend that ambiance to their own living room.
Inspiration in the Sundae house
In the Sundae house, Ylenia and Tim saw how Kalkverf could completely transform a space. The deep colour, soft colour nuances, and matte finish immediately appealed to them. They had previously painted their kitchen using this technique and now wanted to give their sitting area the same warm, mineral atmosphere.
For their living room, they chose Muur Deco Kalkverf in Zwarte Woudgroen as a focal point in the sitting area. This deep green hue was intended to create coziness and character, without making the space too dark.
As a soft base for the ceiling and dining area, they opted for Risottowit. This colour keeps the overall look light and calm, but feels softer and warmer than standard white. This creates a beautiful balance between the warm, distinct sitting area and the lighter parts of the living space.
From white to warmer and more homely
The main reason for painting was renewal. After years of intensive use, the space deserved to feel fresh and well-maintained again. But something else was also at play: by seeing many interior images on social media, Ylenia and Tim noticed that a completely white interior no longer felt right for them.
Their house needed to become warmer. Cozier. More their own.
They hoped that the space would feel brand new afterward, but above all, that they could create that warm, homely feeling. The project would be successful for them if people came in and were inspired to choose colour themselves instead of a typical white house.
Paint advice at Paintfactory Roeselare
For their project, Ylenia and Tim visited Paintfactory Roeselare to buy their paint. There, they were helped by Nils.
They already had a clear idea of the atmosphere they wanted but needed some extra advice on the practical finishing. They were particularly unsure about the skirting boards, cabinets, and radiator. Should they paint them with Limewash paint and then varnish them? Or would it be better to choose lacquer paint?
Nils advised them to lacquer the skirting boards, TV cabinet, and radiator. Because the sitting area is not a huge surface, the limewash technique would already come into its own there. By finishing the details with lacquer paint, the whole remains stronger, easier to maintain, and more practical for daily use.

Which paint was used?
For the entire project, Ylenia and Tim needed several Paintfactory products :
- Primer muur as good preparation for the walls.
- Muur mat paint for the ceiling and dining area in Risottowit.
- Muur Deco Kalkverf for the sitting area in Zwarte Woudgroen.
- Lak Hydro Satin for the skirting boards, TV cabinet, and radiator in Zwarte Woudgroen.
In total, they took about 20 liters of paint with them. For the entire project, they paid 325.01 euros. This kept them well within their planned budget of 500 to 800 euros.
Tim carried out all the painting work himself. He planned to complete the project in evenings and weekends, spread over three to four weeks. This way, they could renew their living space step by step, without having to tackle everything at once.
Painting themselves on evenings and weekends
The painting work went very smoothly. Tim was particularly pleased with the open time of the paint. This gave him enough time to roll out everything nicely and finish it calmly.
This makes it much more pleasant for a DIYer. Especially when painting after work or on weekends, you want a paint that is easy to work with and does not dry too quickly. This gives you more control over the result and allows you to work neatly.
By doing everything themselves, the project became even more personal. It wasn't just a make-over, but truly a space where they themselves invested time, work, and care.
The result: warm, cozy, and personal
For Ylenia and Tim, the end result feels like a completely different space. The sitting area has become a cozy nook where the colour really comes into its own. Zwarte Woudgroen turns out not to be too dark at all. On the contrary: the colour brings warmth and depth, yet the space remains bright and pleasant.
According to them, the living room now feels warmer, cozier, more inviting, and more personal. The colour fits very well in the space and makes the interior feel more alive.
Friends and family also react positively. Even their parents say that the colour is not dark. That was perhaps the biggest doubt beforehand, but the end result shows that a deep color can work perfectly in a living space.

A make-over that meets expectations
Ylenia and Tim's expectations were fully met. They are very satisfied with the advice in the store and would definitely recommend Paintfactory.
For them, the price-quality ratio is good, but the colour collection and techniques also make a difference. They find that Paintfactory offers modern colours and finishes that fit well with contemporary interiors.
This make-over beautifully shows how you can completely transform a living space with the right color, products, and advice. Not by renovating everything, but by consciously choosing warmth, texture, and paint with character.
