What are the essential tools for a painter's van?
A well-equipped van saves a painter a lot of time. You don't need to carry every possible tool, but some are indispensable on almost every job site. With the right basic equipment, you can start immediately and don't have to go back to the store for every small item.
1. Paint rollers and roller frames
Provide various paint rollers so you can paint large surfaces as well as doors, windows, and smaller areas.
- Wall roller: ANZA PRO Maxi Micmex Platinum Green 18 cm
- Mini roller: ANZA PRO Mini Micmex 10cm
- Varnish roller: ANZA PRO MINI ANTEX 10cm
- Roller frame: ANZA Holder 3C – 18cm
Always bring at least one extra roller sleeve. This allows for quick changes when working with multiple colors or types of paint.
2. Paint brushes
A good brush is essential for corners, edges, connections, and fine varnishing.
- Flat brush: ANZA PRO SUPER SOFT FL1.5" – Flat Brush 40mm
- Pointed brush: ANZA PRO SUPER POINT 15
- Wall brush: BONOTOOLS FLAT BRUSH 2
- Block brush: BONOTOOLS BLOCK BRUSH PROF SHORT 3 x 10
The flat ANZA brushes are suitable for water-based varnishes. The pointed brushes are handy for fine-lining and hard-to-reach places.
3. Paint tray, paint bucket, and grid
For small painting jobs, a paint tray is practical. For larger surfaces, working from a paint bucket with a grid is more efficient.
- Large paint tray 23 x 32cm – 0.75L
- Paint bucket: Paint bucket 14L
- Paint grid: Paint grid N4 plastic Large 23.5 x 37cm
- Liner: Disposable PET liner Transparent for paint tray 0.75L
With a liner, you can switch colors faster and don't have to clean the entire paint tray every time.

4. Taping and covering materials
Proper taping and covering prevent paint splatters, damage, and extra cleaning work.
- Painter's tape with film: Kip MASKING-TEC® Masker with masking tape Premium
- Cover film: Kip Express Mask
- Cover fleece: Cover fleece EcoPro 25m x 1m
- Tape for sharp paint lines: KIP 3308-36 FineLine masking tape Washi-Tec Yellow 36mmx50m
The EcoPro cover fleece has an absorbent top and an impenetrable anti-slip membrane on the bottom. It can also be reused multiple times.
5. Sanding materials
A smooth painting result starts with a well-prepared surface. Therefore, provide sanding materials for both flat surfaces and for corners, profiles, and edges.
- Sandpaper: MIRKA ABRANET 100 x 152mm Grip P120
- Sanding sponge: Combiblock SIASPONGE 69 x 96 x 26 Fine yellow
- Sanding block: Hand block SIAFAST 70 x 125
Bring multiple grit sizes. A coarser grit is used for irregularities, while a fine grit is suitable for intermediate sanding and finishing layers.

6. Putty knife and filler
Spots, holes, and cracks are encountered on almost every job site. With a good putty knife and a universal filler, these can be repaired immediately.
- Putty knife: ANZA PRO PUTTY KNIFE 7.5cm
- Universal filler: AGUAPLAST Express 1kg
Aguaplast Express is a quick-drying renovation filler with high filling power. The product is suitable for indoor use and can be applied to various substrates.
7. Caulking tools
A caulk gun is useful for seams, joints, and connections around windows, doors, and baseboards.
- Caulk gun: DL – MANUAL SKELETON CAULK GUN 310ML
- Finishing tool: Parasilico smoothing tool
With the smoothing tool, you can finish the caulk joint neatly and evenly.

8. Basic tools
Some general tools should also not be missing. Think of a utility knife, measuring tape, screwdriver, and a sturdy step ladder.
An important painter's aid is:
- Joint knife: ANZA PRO Joint Knife 15cm
This type of tool is useful for smoothing and finishing larger repairs and plastering work.
9. Cleaning materials
Before you start painting, the surface must be clean and free of grease. A good degreaser should therefore be standard in your van.
- Degreaser: Bonotools Cleaner 5L
Bonotools Cleaner is a universal degreaser for removing oil, grease, nicotine, soot, and dirt, among other things. The product is suitable for cleaning surfaces before painting. Rinse the surface thoroughly with water after use.
10. Personal protection
Working safely remains essential. Ensure that you have:
- Work gloves
- Dust mask
- Safety glasses
- Sturdy work shoes
- Hearing protection for machine sanding
These personal protective equipment items are not the same for every paint project but should be standard in your van.
